Looking more into St. Giga.

As a Satellaview researcher I've wondered about the nature of St. Giga - and how they got involved in an ambitous Nintendo project - for a while. Even as I've looked up Satellaview content, I've also looked into researching St. Giga as a whole.

For a while I've tried entering search terms with their title on NicoNicoDouga - and recently I've been getting results. You can check some of them after the snip.

More importantly though, the English Wikipedia has been doing articles based on translations of the Japanese Wikipedia.
I'd like to thank anyone who helped on that. :)
It's very helpful, and it gives me context into some of my search results, too.

Whether it be the experimental New-Age music, or the just-as-experimental yet radically different Satellaview, St. Giga's history was innovation in the music business - which may have been why Nintendo sought them out for this project.

Apparently Nintendo invested stock in them in 93? Funny, wasn't that around the year the Super Famicom CD projects fell under?

Anyway, here are the most recent NicoNicoDouga uploads, an episode of "RADIO STAR" which is very ambient in nature, and some episode's of Yuuki Nae's show, "Tomorrow, If..."

(Oh, yeah, hit that "Read More" button now.)

Needed to fill up space - more Radioness.

Bringing back the radio programming. :3

This is probably what I should've done on them slow news days. Durrr. I tend to be braindead too often.

More Satellaview Radio, now with Dragon Quest... IX?

(EDIT: URL Fixings.)

I actually have a lot of this one.

this strange radio program is 伊集院光の怪電波発信基地

Google translates the name of the program as "Mysterious Phone Calls". I've heard from some translators I work with that the actual meaning implies that it's a prank phone call show, but it seems quite a bit more rnadom in that.

In particular, a segment of the show is apparently a skit called "Dragon Quest IX". Wait, isn't that gonna be on the DS soon? Wow, how time flies....

Hey! Listen! - Game Tiger Special.

(EDIT: URL EDIT GET!)

NicoNicoDouga recently got up a new bit of Satellaview radio programming. I figured I'd put it up here, along with a little something else I found that's related to it.

A frequent recurring radio host on the Satellaview's "Super Famicom Hour" was called the "Game Tiger". I'm not quite sure who or what that's meant to be, but the show features a lot of discussion.

This one, apparently a "Special", makes frequent references to the Nintendo 64. When you think about it, it must be sad for these guys to have to advertise the console that was meant to usurp them. Well, at least the Satellaview lasted longer than Randnet did.

Also, a little bonus! The Starfox song in the beginning? I think it sounds fairly much like this:

The Corneria Arrange is from the Star Fox OST

A Marathon's Worth of Satellaview Radio.

(EDIT: URLs change.)

No amount of text will be able to explain why I'm using these to fill up space. Mwahahahahahahahhahahahahah.

*eh-hem*

Anyway, here's more of "The After-School King".

If anyone thinks they want to take a shot at translating Satellaview things, I'd gladly accept articles. Not that I think anyone feels like doing that for this. lol.

Listen to the Satellaview - "Burst of Laughter" programming.

(I probably don't have many variations on "I fixed the URL" left)

You want more long strings of Japanese audio you can not understand?

No?

Well, too bad! You're getting it anyway!

This is 伊集院光 on an episode of 放課後の王様.

To make this pain easier for you all, I'll put 3 more of these in a single post! That way there won't be as many floods of entries like this.

And finally, the original NicoNicoDouga URLs:

Listen to the Satellaview - They played pop music on it? NO WAY!... erm, excuse my shock over the obvious.

(EDIT: HEY THIS ONE IS FIXED TOO.)

Joke of a name aside, it's time for another piece of radio programming taken from the fine yet a-bit-too-anonymous folks at NicoNicoDouga. Alas, some names would help here...?

Yes, it's not much more than J-Pop music, but it's a neat listen into what was popular at the time the Satellaview was around, and what kind of audience was expected to shell out the cash for it. Besides, listening to this while doing mood-clashing things in the BS-X World would be entertaining, no?

If you haven't already figured it out by how many times her name is plastered on the video, the J-Pop celeb on here is "Yuki Uchida".

It seems to have played alongside of "放課後の王様"

Listen to the Satellaview - Radio Programming (Part 1?)

(URLs repaired.)

I've already shown how the Satellaview streamed Satellite Audio for the use of some of it's game titles. Did I also mention that Satellaview users could stream audio at other times, as well?

The Satellaview was able to stream Satellite audio programming at set times (I believe I heard from around 4PM to 8PM) during the day.

On top of this, special radio programming was produced. To have on content that catered to the interests of gamers, St. Giga's radio shows during the Satellaview's listening hours consisted of videogame news and discussion, along with the occasiaonl piece of pop music.

An example was recently put up on NicoNicoDouga... ok, actually, there's a lot more than just this from a long time ago, but this one is recent! Allow me to show you folks this!

(NOTE: The video is probably not how the Satellaview actually looked like while playing the program.)

Berri has translated the title of the show to be "The After-School King".

The host of this airing is listed as 穴井夕子 or "Yuko Anai".

I have latter episodes, but they are hosted by 伊集院光 instead...
